There are alternators that require external voltage regulators. Cores returned in a damaged state are subject to no or partial credit, so package them well for return as if they were a new product. Well i did get it to run for about 30 minutes. That being said, if you have a 12 volt alternator on a tractor, it is most likely negative ground and the system would use a 12 volt battery wired with the negative (-) terminal connected to ground. Would spark plugs have to be resistor or non resistor to match coil? If a 6 volt ignition system is converted to 12 volts and a Delco style 12 volt coil with an internal resistor is installed as part of the conversion, no external resistors are required. Unhook all the wires from the from the coil and test the resistance, a 12v coil with a built in resistor will measure somewhere around 3 ohms across the terminals. You have to know, for example, that a Hitachi 14231 alternator was standard on the 1979 Datsun D210 pickup, OFF THE TOP OF YOUR HEAD! Wrote: 6 Volt Coils - Require External Resistor For 12 Volt Systems. If a 6 volt ignition system is converted to 12 volts and has an original Delco style 6 volt coil with an internal resistor, the original 6 volt coil with internal resistor can be used if a voltage reducing resistor, reducing 12 volts to 6 volts is installed in the coil circuit.
Shipping rates are estimated by weight. What I found has me scratching my head. If we do not receive your core within 30 days no credit will be given. The GM HEI is one system that does not. Hence, the problems that occured over the years with the "D" series wiring. Joined: Thu Aug 03, 2006 6:20 am. NAPA has a good 12 volt coil with internal resister for under $20. The positive terminal on the ignition coil primary is connected to the ignition switch. Cross referenced the application numbers. Yes, that should be the right one for you stamped 12 volt on it.
My jeep has a 12V battery with a resistor in line with the this 12V coil eliminate the need for the in line resistor? It has a little writing on it, and I can see it says something about resistor, but not enough to tell for sure. When a 6 volt ignition system is converted to 12 volts either a 12 volt coil must be installed or a resistor installed in the circuit to reduce the coil voltage to 6 volts. If it's the wrong type could it damage the electronic distributor?
If you have a resistor in line you do not need a resistor coil, and you do not need resistor plugs that I am aware of, someone else will know for sure but i think i am right. It worked, but as the systems aged, the stacking causes more resistance in certain area's of those systems, as well as the light load Ignition switches that were used, and electrical failures were not uncommon either downstream or at the Ignition switch. Delivery And Returns. Contact: I know we had discussed these coils before in another thread. CAN THIS COIL BE USED FOR A SIX CYLINDER FLAT HEAD 230 ENGINE 12 VOLT SYSTEM? Location: Andover, NJ. Country of Origin (subject to change): Turkey. If they'll take it back, return it and get the NAPA listed above. Depending on the circumstances, shipping labels may be mailed, placed in your shipment or sent as a call tag with your carrier. And, what polarity adjustments are made in the system? Bought a spark tester and the spark in the tester is yellow. If you feel the online quote is inaccurate please contact us and we will check into the matter. 79 Each Indicated 12 volts, does not indicate if External Resistor is Required.
Here are the NAPA coils that they have available. I'll figure something out, Thanks for the help, Autozone just opened up, so I figured I would give them a try, NAPA is usually a little price'r but I should've gone again. I just Received the information that my order has already shipped, but I also just found out that I ordered the Wrong Part Number, what should I do? If you have a coil labeled for 12v use it will have a resistor built into the coil itself. Edited to add: this wiring was NOT the source of my no-spark problem, but that's another story). Boss Hog wrote:The part # that I posted is the coil you need. Do not use external ballast resistor he says.
But maybe scans of the pages you have might be an option.
