Using a feeler gauge to get close, adjust the points to the desired setting according to dwell readings and tighten the points. When fitting new contact-breaker points in the distributor, the normal way of checking the gap between them is with a feeler gauge. I guess I'm just an old man. First ask a helper to press the accelerator to increase the engine speed slowly to about 1, 000 rpm, then let it drop back to idling speed while you note the reading. They are not all the same.
