The latter is something he's been familiar with in his work with The Wonder Years, but the former is a real task, one that, for those familiar with his trajectory, has sharpened his writing in the past few years. Aaron's fiction often feels a lot more like authentic human experience, especially on songs like "Just Sign The Papers", "Wildflower Honey", "God & The Billboards", and more. Aaron played his debut LP, We Don't Have Each Other front-to-back, in order, with the addition of the newly released Bittersweet EP finishing off the set. With I have been able to reach the managers of various celebrities and influencers that I wasn't able to reach before for product endorsements and placements. The entire venue feels like a cheap secret, and it's the exact kind of place that you would imagine Aaron West, a man broken, alone and clawing his way home, to hide out and play music for money. This was Aaron West, alone on stage with an acoustic guitar and a few bright lights, telling his story. And, personally, I'm not sure if I believe that to be sadness. The thing songwriters like Springsteen never get enough credit for is how they don't obsess over the neatness of resolution. West's songs are deeply depressing affairs – the opening song, "Our Apartment", a song about West losing his mind as he sits alone after his wife leaves him, wondering where she went, was sung from the rafters by the crowd. Campbell is a genuinely gifted storyteller, and West's story makes for brutal listening at times, but the coda to the album, 'Carolina Coast', allows a glimmer of hope to shine through, even as he's talking about killing himself, before finally making the resolution that he 'won't lay down and die / I'm not coming home tonight without Diane by my side.
