When I first came to MFW my over all summary was school is definitely more doable, my children are learning a lot more, we cover less facts and less information - but at that same time the information we do cover is far more in-depth and far more deep. Also, some of the books in MFW aren't necessarily read aloud; the child looks at the pictures, read the captions together, discuss what you are learning - active learning, not just sitting and listening to Mom's voice for half the day. If you are a mom that wants the ability to be flexible, MFW is for you. Winterpromise looks REALLY interesting! My father's world vs sonlight. Figuring out the sequences of what to buy from Sonlight was a little confusing at first. Most high school homeschoolers have to buy their math, science, and electives separately anyways, so Sonlight's ability to mix and match and buy a la carte History and Literature items made it so I didn't have books we would not use, like we did with MFW 9th grade. My Father's World is most commonly paired with Sonlight curriculum. Have children who are great auditory learners and do not require hands-on learning. Well, the easier part is good! I loved most of the P4/5 books (there are some I considered age inappropriate for Pre-school, but they are still great books - maybe just for a little older), I loved most of Core K (all but one book was great, but again I found 4 -5 to be age inappropriate, in my mind, for K).
I could go on but will stop leaves time for other life activities such as piano, dance, soccer and mom to go to the gym... My husband and I agree that WE are learning as much as the kids and we never had this great of an education in elementary or high school. I'm considering MFW for DS for K. heidisue. This puts undue pressure on the parent, and take away some of the flexibility that I have loved about MFW in the past. The Lord will lead you, He is faithful! For some, it means mom is reading an encyclopedia before teaching, or asking 1, 000 questions to be sure every detail is covered. It connects to the science studies and the Bible is studied as a historical book, thus Creation to the Greeks. Great history program - prob the best out there. For each level, two package choices are available: basic and deluxe. We all look forward to our bi-weekly Monday afternoon trip to the library, and the boys picked their own books as I pick up the books we will need for the next two weeks. I think MFW does a good job of presenting just Bible & leaving the interpretation up to the parents, so it's easy to use by folks of any doctrine. I like your "rambling". I always felt like "bible/character" was an afterthought with fiar when I used it. He enjoyed the book selection in Exploration to 1850, and quickly decided on that. However, from the samples online I don't get the sense that the actual geography study incorporates much reading aloud together time--it appears to consist mainly of completing worksheets. They even had the children memorize the love chapter from the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13! Is MFW on social media? Someone always answers during business hours to answer any questions or concerns. For us, the whole program was just too much. Starting with Adventures in U. S. History, the math and language arts are not combined with the program. I also appreciate that MFW is more innocent. Sonlight includes a CD with some Pinterest-style ideas on it, but nothing scheduled and nothing that really attracted me. This was one of the very first videos I made for my channel, so it's a little rough around the edges. The ones in MFW are simple, doable, inexpensive, but fun & effective. I sound like I'm down on fiar.. Fiar the art comes from a specific story you are doing all week, and in mfw, the art is a separate book. Although my kids are a little too far apart to enjoy this, many families enjoy buying on year of MFW and being able to use it for multiple children.
