That is one of those I don't know why it works just that it does things. I must add, this job isn't for the faint of heart. My brother and I eventually started sneaking some of it in our go-cart engine and we could really tell the difference in how it ran after mixing some in the gas, it ran smoother and with more power. I ended up using much less—8 inch-pounds with perfect results. I assume the valve guides are whats supposed to wear but Wanted to make sure before I tackle pulling the head to find where my oil comsumption is coming from. Howard's advice is the safest way out.. Use MMO in the OIL if you want to live on the wild side. Once you have determined you need to ream the guide out, the first step is to partially push the exhaust valve into the cylinder. This time I went with my gut instinct and went out to look for a fuel injector cleaner. After he left, I went out and looked at it. Thank You MMO for saving the Coast Guard from being towed in! As Marvel Mystery Oil is just very light oil, I would assume that it is burnt in the combustion process and therefore would have no effect on the exhaust valve and guide.
Rislone worked for me. Needless to say it ran kinda rough, didn't start all that well sometimes, power seemed lacking. After running it around the block a few times, I put all new spark plugs in it, drained and refill the oil, following the instructions on the back of the MMO bottle replacing 20% of the oil with MMO. My father-in-law used it in plane engines during WW2. I started putting Marvel in the crankcase & gas and the tick went away! More clearance in the guides won't cause unusual wear during normal engine TBO. The mechanic decided to just go ahead and check all the valve clearances, and well, they are all still factory spec and I mean off by maybe 1mm. Ben Visser is an aviation fuels and lubricants expert who spent 33 years with Shell Oil. Place appropriate rags around the engine and a drip pan under the engine. "I hope I'm half the person that my dogs think I am". Remember years ago when I was a little kid my grandpa always had Marvel Mystery Oil in his work shed. My first aircraft mechanic told me to use Marvel Oil in the gas and the airplane would just plain run better and have better lubrication. The valve rotator cap falls off the end of the valve stem.
I was having difficulty getting the car to start on cold mornings (below 25 degrees F). Im not buying the talk of welding valve seats and all that, not saying if conditions were right it couldnt happen, but im with carl on that one i too have seen engines so hot it seemed as you could see thru the ex manifold, what you were really seeing was the hotter and cooler (relative term) parts of the casting (different shades of cherry red). Eithersituation is quite serious. About all they can dois to use the correct parts (valves, guides, seats, rotators, etc. We love your product and would love MMO stickers for our vehicles, so we could spread the word about MMO!!
Well, it is that simple. The solution is to add MMO to the fuel... about 2 ounces per 3 gallons. The concept of this is simple on paper: Insert a magnetic telescoping wand down the valve guide, grab onto the end of the stem and yank the valve back into the guide. I tried again, this time with a little throttle... The valve not being able to fully open or close causes incomplete combustion, which in turn forms more deposits and worsens the issue. There is no way a small engine or standard automotive engine or a Jeep engine could ever get that hot. I've always used synthetics and I am at a loss for a technical explanation as to how it worked and so fast, but that's the "Mystery" about it, eh? Naturally, I would be unlucky enough to have an intermittent issue. Put a half to a full quart in with the oil. Back in the day my mom, had a 73 mach 1. a lifter peckin.... i worked for a pair of crusty old turds who owned a sohio station and did mechanic told me to go out back and get a quart of kerosene out of the tank and dump in the motor... i asked him how long to leave it in?
Engine was turning over, but either wasn't getting spark, fuel, or air. Reinstall the spark plugs with new washers (or annealed old washers). I learned the hard way on this project not to over-torque the screws with silicon gaskets. A sticky valve occurs when the valve stem can no longer move through the guide freely, and it becomes bound to the guide.
Posted by: 1966-Corsa-GT-180 (). I've tried it it seems to help alot will continue, does anyone know of a product called Z-max? I've had experience with both, but never both at the same time. My method for this was to push a small cloth rag lightly doused with carburetor cleaner (acetone or any other solvent should also work) down the guide with a dowel, and remove it through the exhaust port. I don't know if any of the current fuel additives with prevent this particularly since none of them contains any lead. Works great breaking loose pistons and etc. I didn't have it in sight, as my mind was going a million miles an hour.
One last tap and the exhaust valve should be free of the guide. Next up was a practice hold, followed by a GPS approach into York, Pennsylvania (KTHV). That was a year ago and my $223 car runs as smooth as any new car. He did have one suggestion though. The power loss results in a forced landing. Never the less I think that the alcohol in the fuel is the major culprit with modern fuel. How to Cure a Sticky Lifter or Stuck Valve. I tried and failed at a number of experiments, which ranged from using Irwin soft plastic clamps to using the force of my hand. While this has worked, it is not recommended by Lycoming because it could damage the valve and/or the guide. I was introduced to mmo as a new hire at United Airlines in 1955 (no jets yet) we poured a lot of mmo in those big pratt & whitney piston engines. I also use MMO in my 350 Enfield Bullet with the same results.
Forum Jump|| Forum Permissions. By Thomas R. MMO is the way to go! I had four lifters sticking, causing no compression in two of the six cylinders. It would be ideal for this portion of the job to involve two people—one person to exert hand pressure on the top of the rocker arm to keep the lifter compressed, while the other person rotates the propeller so both valves are closed. My L head engine runs beautifully when valve is not sticking.
