In Carthage, Missouri, mid-October marks the start of the annual Maple Leaf Festival. Please pray for all those who received a gospel tract or heard the open air preaching. Pray they will be convicted and turn to God and be born again and live for Jesus. The YMCA 5k will begin at 6pm, along with the Car Show Cruise in around the square from 5pm-9pm.

They also preached from different places in the festival. Immediately after the parade enjoy over 125 arts, craft & food vendors lining the whole outside and inside of the Carthage square. Today we - my wife, Leann - and I, went to Carthage, Missouri to the Maple Leaf Festival & Parade. This was Bruce's second time to open air preach. She was handing them to teenagers, and also walking up to the people in the yards and those sitting on porches at their houses. Volunteers are also being sought out during the event. There were many people walking about. Reminder to Christians. Jesus and he helped them through the tornado. The Maple Leaf Festival features a huge number of events to check out, including the Maple Leaf Quilt show, displaying historic Missouri quilts; a downtown Carthage art walk event; a dog show; a car show; and the Carthage high school alumni football game. Bruce, Leann and I started on the other side of the street. The Maple Leaf Festival features an array of food-related events that any true foodie would love. But the hallmark event of the festival is the parade, touted as the biggest in southwest Missouri.
"There is a little something for everyone to enjoy during this weekends Maple Leaf Festival, " said Julie Reams, President of the Carthage Chamber of Commerce. "We really have to mark off the spot in front of our house where we plan to watch the parade. This tradition returns from a 2 year hiatus due to COVID. Children's performers, such as clowns and magicians, entertain the kids throughout the festival. Rotary will be serving lunch from 11am-2pm and open again on Saturday at 10am. Enjoy a Pumpkin Patch on the square and live entertainment beginning after the parade that includes the Ables, The Flyin' Buzzards, & Pickers Post. It's a bold witnessing. There were seven of us altogether. We had a good time in the Lord while out sharing the gospel.
There were thousands of people along the parade route. It was her first time - what we call, "Breaking the sound barrier". This is a lot of gospel message seeds being planted into the lives of people. Another tradition that will be back around the square is the Friday Night "Cruise-In" from 5:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. The Maple Leaf Car Show Committee is excited to showcase all the cars around the square, which allows not only the participants but spectators to enjoy the beauty of what the historic Carthage square offers. No matter what your age or interest, there is something for everyone to enjoy at this family-friendly festival. Every October, the Saturday before the Maple Leaf Parade, we hold our annual fundraiser ride, the Maple Leaf Bicycle Tour. Anyone wishing to volunteer just needs to call us and let us know their availability so we can assign tasks and duties that will fit their schedule, " said Reams.
"We are very excited to announce that our parade route will go back to its traditional route of going back around the square, " added Reams. I'm not sure how long the parade route was, but it lasted two hours. At the Chili Fest, amateur and professional cooks prepare their best chili dishes for official Chili Appreciation Society International judges. Ride sessions will be from 5-10pm, and on Saturday from 12-6pm and from 6-10pm. "It was very important to the committee and to the Chamber to resume the annual tradition that it had been in 2019, " said Reams. "With all vendors spots sold out, a large number of participants in the parade, I am excited to see all of our streets lined with community members and guests throughout the city enjoying the Maple Leaf fun, " added Reams. I had multiple people give me a thumbs up sign, tell me they do trust Jesus, and one person even told me that they trust. It is a a road ride, beginning at scenic Kellogg Lake in Carthage, and traverses the serene countryside of Jasper and Barton County, through Jasper, and includes stops at the Keltoi Winery, Beard Engine Brewing, and Red Oak II open air museum. At the annual Luncheon Stroll & Shop event, which benefits breast cancer research, guests can enjoy an elegant lunch at the famous Phelps house, then stroll down Grand Avenue for some retail therapy.
We met up with Greg Marlin with Born of Him Ministries, who brought Bruce, Anna and Jim. If you can't attend in person or watch on television, we STRONGLY encourage you to check it out! Over 150 entries have entered in the parade and will tour around the historic square. Our live stream allows you to watch and listen to the parade from anywhere in the world! Carthage Police say any vehicle parked along the parade route will be towed, if not moved before 7:00 a. m. Saturday. The police didn't say anything to them, other than asking them to move closer to the curb, which they did. For children, the highlight of the fair is the Kids Korner area, where they can participate in arts and crafts, train rides and games. The grand finale is the parade. Dennis Vance with Seek and Save the Lost Ministries also came out with Greg. It features marching bands, floats representing local businesses, the Maple Leaf Royal Court and various regional and national performers. Central Park will be buzzing after the parade with the annual tractor show from 10am-3pm.
Greg and his group went back to the festival and began to open air preach with amplification. The Maple Leaf Pageant is open to children as young as newborns to 19-year-olds, vying for a spot in the Maple Leaf Royal Court. On Thursday, those living on Grand Avenue started setting up lawn chairs and marking off street-side sections in front of their homes. God was working through him. Leann was passing out a lot of tracts. Thank you, Anna, for being bold and being used by the Lord. Last year's broke annual tradition by utilizing only one side of the square making the parade a little shorter.
