My advice: If you liked Goblin and you also liked My Shy Boss (or Radiant Office or similar romcoms), I think you should give The Bride of Haebaek a try. There is just so much pretty here. So, I decided to watch the second episode. The Bride of the Water God is a modern take on the popular historical fantasy manhwa Bride of the Water God. Even though the second episode was lame. She's not a difficult character to understand and highly entertaining. I'm a little bit unsatisfied with the ending but still, I loved it......... The story makes no sense till a while and the characters that actually were exciting like the one of Im Joo Hwan and the nurse aren't developed further. He caught my eye in Scarlet Heart (I was more interested in his character's story arc than that of the leads), and I think he has won me over in this drama. In preparation for his crowning as the King of Realms of God, Habaek ( Nam Joo Hyuk), a water god crosses the world of humans to find three heavenly stones kept by deities living in the mortal world.
It's slow initially but picks up the pace after episode 4. Let me know your thoughts too 🙂. It initially set up a unique world of gods and goddesses and gradually began to reveal more and more. And thankfully the show delivered just that! Their romance, fights, moods, jealousy, and somewhat comedy. Bride of the Water God is loosely based on the manhwa (Korean comic book) about a water god, Habaek, and his romance with a human girl. This drama is based on the interaction of a god and a human. The story begins when Habaek, the God of Water, comes to Earth to find a stone that will help him be crowned king of the gods. They meet by chance but their fates are connected because Yoon So Ah is a servant of the gods because of a promise her ancestor made centuries ago to the gods. The secondary characters playing deity roles were weakly sketched so that you could lift them out of the story, and it would still be a working narrative. So-ah wished for a lifetime with Habaek on Earth before he had to return to the heavenly realm to assume his they get maybe 50 or 60 years together, with Habaek still frozen in eternal youth while she ages and dies? I've barely read the first five volumes of the manhwa (comic) and unfortunately, I don't even remember what happened in those. Habaek finally traces the missing earth god whom he needs for the remaining stone.
There are ill defined rules of the game. I know taking away Habaek's powers moves the story along (otherwise, why would he even need So-ah in the first place? There are pretty funny moments that may get you chuckling out loud. That has been my big complaint about the series. On the other hand the cinematography and the special effects were quite good, it was sad that they focused more on fancy effects than on the actual plot. However, all those efforts looked as disconnected from the rest of the drama. He's half god and half human as his mother is human.
Not only they managed to completely destroy a beautiful story but they reached new heights of trying to make a fool out of the viewers. What little direction the show had in the beginning, finding the god stones, left near the end and all anyone did was flounder. There was no follow-thru on many ideas. Habaek is a chic youth with impeccable fashion and flawless hair. This was the same frustration I had with Vampire Detective. I'm still upset we're here talking about those damn stones, and I call bull shit on that priest. That's entirely the fault of the writers though. He faced the worst kind of abuse as a child yet he grows up to be the best kind of man. I think rewatching it helped me understand it better.
Sometimes I thought it was there, and other times, not so much. God, I want that kind of hair. And when she first meets Habaek she thinks he is delusional. The scriptwriter mentioned that the storyline is almost the same as "Goblin", thus they have made some amendments. He was able to use them twice, and they were marvelous special effects, but then they were not used again. I liked the fantasy element to the story with the gods having a long history with each other and having magical powers. The God Country scenes were very disappointing.
Bi Ryeom is a force of nature. Savor the sweet moments and sigh at the nonsense events. Edit: 2 years and dozens of dramas later, I stand by my initial review. 2) There are many others who are being despised because of their background, no matter how successful they are or how much good they are doing now.
