I was pulled into the novel right away! This is a beautiful story and I can't say it enough how much I enjoyed reading it. While the book is historically accurate to the characters and events, it makes for depressing reading. They were living and breathing and moving through their lives, guided by their own personal hopes and dreams, just as we are today. On the surface this seems like it would be a good book. Even with their age difference you can see that these two souls were meant to be and that a love like theirs was a once in a lifetime love. Think John Kennedy-level celebrity. The author did an excellent job moving between Madeleine's narration and the omniscient narrator telling us the rest of the story. Keep in mind most of us have seen the movie, Titanic, so I really was expecting this portion of the book to be really entertaining. The only thing I would have liked to read a bit more was Madeline's life after she was widowed in a fictionalized way. Were Madeleine and Jack right to insist upon a swift, small wedding, instead of the huge social blowout that was more typical of their time and station? This book is available on August 31, so pre-order your copy now! Either commit to it being a full-on fictional memoir or don't do it at all! She switches back and forth between first person and third person narration, which can be confusing at times, if the reader doesn't catch who is speaking at the time.
